The stadium will host its first competitive game on 16 June when the touring British and Irish Lions rugby team play a local Southern Kings Invitational side. Jordaan praised the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality, saying the it was a “tribute to their project management capability, the construction company and the workers that they managed to complete the stadium in record time. “It demonstrates the capacity of South Africa’s construction industry and our commitment to deliver on all our 2010 Fifa World Cup promises.” Nelson Mandela Bay deputy executive mayor Bicks Ndoni said the public opening gave residents the chance to see first-hand the stadium’s “state-of-the-art facilities, experience its beauty, warmth and uniqueness, anda bask in the glory and pride of knowing that we are the joint owners of a truly world-class facility”. first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Our weather pattern looks to calm down and dry out some over the coming week to 10 days. In fact, in the next week, we have only one minor chance of moisture for the entire state, and the totals there are significantly lower than our look at the same system last week. So, it seems we finally are trying to morph into some semblance of a normal July weather pattern. We are dry today, tomorrow and most of Wednesday, as sunshine dominates. We saw a different air mass move into eastern corn belt yesterday behind the frontal passage Saturday and yesterday morning. This will lead to lower humidity values still over the next 3 days, although we will slowly walk those humidity values higher the closer we get to Wednesday afternoon and evening. Clouds will also begin to increase Wednesday afternoon and evening. Our one somewhat organized chance of moisture over the next week comes Thursday, as a cold front looks to sag through the state. This front looks significantly less impressive than it did last week, and at this point we would suggest only a few hundredths to a tenth or two across 60% of the state. Those totals are lower and the coverage well below our look from last week. There will be plenty of areas that miss out on that action. However, one area to watch later Thursday afternoon will be far east and southeast Ohio, where we can see a strengthening of action. Most of the thunderstorms likely miss us east into Western PA, but we need to keep an eye out for some totals up closer to half an inch before midnight Thursday night. Behind that front, we go dry again for Friday and then the weekend too. Humidity values back off, and we should see good evaporation. That will be another good window for field and forage work.Early next week looks interesting. We cant rule out a few scattered showers Monday over the western half of Ohio. These are mostly a product of some heat based instability, but totals will be under a quarter of an inch, an coverage will be only about 40%. But, the interesting part of the pattern comes from something else. We are watching a tropical system that seems to be headed for the gulf coast areas late this week and weekend. That storm is being projected to move north, and its remains may make it through the Tennessee valley and into the lower Ohio valley early next week. IF that comes to be, that would spell showers for southern Indiana and Illinois next Monday, and then a slow spread north through Tuesday and perhaps Wednesday. AT this time, models are projecting some of this tropical moisture moving into far western OH, mostly west of I-75 on Tuesday. However, without that tropical moisture pushing north, we should be able to continue a dry pattern. So, at this time we feel comfortable saying that most of Ohio stays dry for Tuesday and Wednesday, but we really have to watch the western areas. Models typically get way overzealous on the first tropical system or two, but with this one in July, rather than May or June…we don’t want to dismiss anything too quickly. The map below shows 10 day rain potential and includes some tropical influence on western Ohio at this time…in fact, that is the only reason we have some of those bigger rain totals in the west. Temps over the next 10 days will be near normal. As humidity builds, we have to leave the door open to temps feeling much warmer than normal, but we think overall, this is a typical July set up on temps. The combination of temps and some rain free days should be very beneficial to a large part of the state.last_img read more

first_imgWhy does your hatchback, sedan or SUV give you a mileage different from what the car manufacturer claims under test conditions? This question made a Mizoram University professor and a research scholar invent a measuring device that yields a near-accurate mileage of a car per litre of fuel. Theirs is one of 25 patents applied for by teachers and research scholars of the university at Tanhril, about 15 km from State capital Aizawl.“Accurate knowledge of automobile mileage is crucial as it is an important performance index parameter of a vehicle during on-road operation. But the mileage achieved by a vehicle during actual road transport applications generally deviates from the manufacturer specifications under controlled conditions for a few driving cycles,” Hranghmingthanga, a professor in Mizoram University’s Department of Physics, told The Hindu. He and research scholar L. Lalnunthari worked on a mechanism that, unlike laboratory measurement, took into account factors such as road condition, driving style, traffic congestion, fuel quality used, gradients, and load on the vehicle. The inexpensive device entailing a digital multimeter, a pipe, and a calibrated fuel container was tested on an 800 cc petrol hatchback under conditions experienced by drivers on the road. “The margin of error in measuring the accurate mileage in kilometres per litre was 10%,” said Mr. Hranghmingthanga said. The device can be used for measurement when the car is stationary. “We can do the reading before starting the engine and after the ignition is switched off at the end of a trip,” said Ms. Lalnunthari. The duo declined to get into the details of their invention expected to be elaborated upon in a science journal soon. “It would suffice to say that it is intended to help vehicle manufacturers give the true average mileage and possibly work on more fuel-efficient engines,” said Mr. Hranghmingthanga.“Our university has had a tremendous year with applications filed for 25 patents by various departments. We have also attracted projects worth more than ₹40 lakh, and our aim is to be a topper among higher education institutes in the country,” said Mizoram University Vice-Chancellor K.R.S. Sambasiva Rao said.last_img read more

first_imgKolkata will be eager to maintain their 13-game winning streak as they take on Dolphins todayWelcome to the coverage of Match 18 in the Champions League Twenty20 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunfoil Dolphins from the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket stadium in Hyderabad.ScorecardSunfoil Dolphins managed to score 151 runs while chasing an imposing total of 187 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders at Uppal. It is a comprehensive win for Kolkata and Gambhir’s men extend their unbeaten streak to 13 matches, which is the most by an Indian team. Yusuf and Russell struck early and had Dolphins at 6/2. van Wyk and van Jaarsveld rebuilt the innings, but fell in quick succession. Zondo and Phehlukwayo hit some meaty blows and kept them in the hunt, but once they perished it was just a matter of time for Kolkata to complete the formalities. Gambhir tried out a few different options, like opening the bowling with Yusuf, giving Suryakumar and Tendo a bowl. At the end, it was Narine who did most of the damage with his 3 wickets, he was well supported by the rest of the bowlers. Dolphins showed glimpses of what they are capable of, but return home without a win. Most consecutive wins in T20s!Top 3 Teams :- 25 Sialkot- 14 Otago- 13 #KKRCongrats Everyone @iamsrk @KKRiders !! Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa are out in the middle for Kolkata while Kyle Abbott will start the proceedings for Dolphins. Toss: Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat first against Sunfoil Dolphins. Kolkata, who have been riding on the wings of winning 13 matches in a row will take on the whipping boys of CLT20 2014, Dolphins. It is an inconsequential match in the sense that Kolkata have won all their three matches till now. At the other end of the spectrum, despite showing flashes of brilliance, Dolphins have lost all their games so far.Quotes:”I think the guys have taken up great responsibility. Unbelievable knock from Suryakumar Yadav(against Perth) and it’s the best knock I’ve seen from such a young guy. He’s got a great head on his shoulder and he’s got a great future. To see Kuldeep bowl well is very pleasing. We need someone who can compliment Sunil and Kuldeep is a perfect fit. Yusuf bowled well and it could help him in his batting as well. There is a lot of hunger in the dressing room and that is the secret about doing well,” Gautam Gambhir said.”It looked closer than it was really, but credit to Robbie for it. It would have been nice if there was a batsman to help him. We will learn from this experience. The batting was an issue, the bowling was OK, although we should have chased some 20 runs less. We want to show we can play good cricket, will look to do well against Kolkata. We can do much better, we will try and show the Dolphins brand of cricket. It has been a wonderful experience playing cricket in India, it is a wonderful country. It has been a good exposure for our guys, we can go back, work on our batting and do better in the future,” Morne van Wyk said after Dolphins lost a cliffhanger to Lahore Lions.Kolkata Knight Riders:Kolkata have shown the required resilience and self-belief to make their mark in the tournament. The likes of Ryan Ten Doeschate, Andre Russell, Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav have chipped in with useful runs as and when required under pressure-cooker situations. It shows that they don’t just depend on one or two players in the batting line-up to make their mark. However, it has been their bowlers, who have played a pivotal role in helping them to win games. They have wicket-taking spinners like Sunil Narine and Kuldeep Yadav to make those crucial breakthroughs. Narine has always been a threat with his box of tricks. However, the emergence of Yadav, with his left-arm chinaman bowling has added more firepower to their line-up. Till now most of the batsmen have failed to pick Yadav’s variations.Sunfoil Dolphins:Kolkata’s opponents, Dolphins, have played with boyish enthusiasm in CLT20. However, they don’t have the results to show for it. It is up to them to put up a fine performance in their last game of the tournament and at least go back to South Africa with a win under their belt.Among their bowlers, Kyle Abbott has bowled well in patches. The seamer can trouble the batsmen with the new ball, as he hits good lines and lengths and sticks to his plans. Robbie Frylinck, who impressed one-and-all in their last game against Lahore Lions can vary his pace and when needed, bowl yorkers. In the batting department, Khaya Zondo, Morne van Wyk, the captain and Cameron Delport have caught the eye, but haven’t been consistent enough. It was Frylinck yet again whose power-hitting against Lahore sent the crowd into a tizzy. Their ground fielding has been of acceptable standards.Teams(from):Kolkata Knight Riders: Gautam Gambhir(c), Robin Uthappa(wk), Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Ryan ten Doeschate, Suryakumar Yadav, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine, Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Jacques Kallis, Pat Cummins, Manvinder BislaSunfoil Dolphins: Morne van Wyk(c/wk), Cameron Delport, Cody Chetty, Keshav Maharaj, Jonathan Vandiar, Khayelihle Zondo, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Robert Frylinck, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kyle Abbott, Prenelan Subrayen, Daryn Smit, Daryn Miles Dupavillon, Craig Alexander, Sibonelo Makhanyalast_img read more
