The current owner, Dr Tony Xia, has been searching for potential investors for a number of weeks as a contingency plan for this potential outcome, and now talks with Freund are set to push forward. The Times say Xia valued the club at £100m, but due to Villa’s financial problems and Xia’s struggles to pay a £4.2m tax bill owed to HM Revenue & Customs, he has not received an offer that matches his valuation.Villa are worried about breaching Financial Fair Play rules unless they making savings of around £40m next season, and infighting at the club led to the suspension of chief executive Keith Wyness on Tuesday.Freund is not the only party interested in buying Villa, with reports last week stating a British consortium were set to submit a bid for the club.last_img read more
